Southside Baptist Church has a very active Recreation Ministry. There are softball teams in spring and fall and basketball for men. The Youth and Children's Ministries have many different activities including swimming, kayaking, flag football, volleyball, dodgeball and frisbee.
One of our activities is an annual 4th of July picnic which we have named the "Family Friendly Fireworks and Picnic." This year we had about 2,000 folks from the congregation and community for the picnic and another undetermined number of folks who came just for the fireworks. Leading up to the fireworks show we had a number of different musical presentations, games and a talent showcase. Games included golf, softball, horse shoes for adults and a basketball shoot for the kids. Much food, cold drinks, boiled peanuts, watermelon and refreshments were available as most family units gathered together under pop-up tents and canopies for old fashioned, down home family fun in the sun (and shade!). It was another great evening that brought back memories of 4ths of July past and created new memories for future recollecting.
We are in the midst of building a Family Life Center and expect that the number of organized activities will increase accordingly.
